What If “I’m Fine” Isn’t the Whole Truth?
Have you ever said “I’m fine” so many times… you actually started believing it?
I came across something today that really made me stop and think.
At first, I thought, “Okay… this is going to be one of those nice little feel-good messages.”
Nope.
Because it got me thinking about how often I—and maybe you too—downplay the things that hurt us.
We tell ourselves:
“It’s not that bad.”
“I can handle it.”
“Other people have bigger problems.”
And maybe we’re not actually fine.
Maybe we’re just really good at making our pain small enough that we don’t have to look at it.
And that made me wonder…
How often do we minimize what we’re feeling because admitting it doesn’t fit the way we want to see ourselves?
Because if I admit something is hurting me…
then I might actually have to do something about it.
I might have to set a boundary.
I might have to let something go.
I might have to ask for help.
Or maybe I just have to finally say:
“Yeah… this really did hurt me.”
And I’m realizing there’s a big difference between being strong and pretending something doesn’t hurt.
So now I’m sitting here wondering…
What have I been minimizing simply because I didn’t want to admit how much it affected me?
If this made you stop and think, you might also enjoy I’m Finally Getting to Know Myself —because sometimes getting to know ourselves means being willing to look a little deeper than the answers we usually give.
Maybe that’s something worth sitting with today.
Because sometimes healing doesn’t start with fixing anything.
Sometimes it starts with finally telling ourselves the truth.
You don’t have to have it all figured out today.
You just have to stop pretending you don’t feel what you feel.
A Little Something to Think About…
The next time you catch yourself saying, “I’m fine,” pause for just a moment.
Take a breath.
And ask yourself:
“Am I really fine… or have I just gotten really good at being okay with something that actually hurts?”
Don’t judge the answer.
You don’t have to fix it right away.
Just be honest with yourself.
Because sometimes the truth we’ve been avoiding isn’t there to make us feel worse.
It’s there to show us what needs our attention.
And maybe the person who deserves a little more honesty today…
is you.
