Daily Encouragement

Seeing More Than One Side

Sometimes, it is easy to become so certain of our own feelings that we forget there may be another side to the story.

That does not mean our feelings are wrong.

It does not mean we have to agree with someone else’s choices or pretend that something did not hurt us.

But sometimes, taking a moment to wonder what another person may be feeling can change the way we see a situation.

Maybe they are struggling with something we cannot see.

Maybe their reaction came from fear, pain, or an experience we know nothing about.

Maybe there is more to the story than what we can see from where we stand.

Empathy gives us the space to pause before assuming we know everything.

We can hold on to our own truth while still making room for someone else’s perspective.

Understanding another person does not require agreement. Sometimes, it simply means remembering that every person is living a story we cannot completely see.

And perhaps a little more understanding can make the world feel a little softer for all of us.

Sometimes, being open to another person’s perspective begins with remembering that we may not know everything they are carrying. You may also enjoy reading Everyone Is Carrying Something.

I can honor my own perspective while remaining open to understanding someone else’s.
