Maybe you’ve had one of those days when you find yourself wishing you were different.

More patient.
More confident.
Less sensitive.
Better at handling certain things.

It’s so easy to look at yourself and focus on everything you think you should change.

But what if, just for today, you stopped trying to fix yourself?

What if you allowed yourself to be exactly who you are right now?

Not who you think you should be.

Not who someone else expects you to be.

Not some future version of yourself that has everything figured out.

You. Right here. Right now.

You have been through things that have changed you.

You’ve learned some lessons the hard way.

You’ve made mistakes. You’ve learned from some of them. And you’re probably still figuring a few things out.

That’s okay.

You don’t have to have everything figured out before you can feel good about who you are.

You don’t have to become a completely different person to have a good day.

Sometimes, you just need to give yourself permission to slow down and take care of you.

Maybe that means getting comfortable under a soft, cozy blanket — (paid link) at the end of a long day.

Maybe it means taking a few minutes for yourself with a warm bath, your favorite candle, or simply sitting somewhere quiet.

It doesn’t have to be complicated.

And sometimes, having a little reminder nearby can help, too.

You might keep a few encouragement or affirmation cards — (paid link) on your nightstand and pull one when you need a little reminder that you’re doing okay.

Or maybe you prefer writing things down. A journal — (paid link) can give you a place to put the thoughts that keep bouncing around in your head.

You don’t have to write pages.

Sometimes one honest sentence is enough.

These little things aren’t going to magically fix everything.

That’s not what they’re for.

They’re simply little reminders to slow down, check in with yourself, and give yourself some of the same kindness you so freely give to everyone else.

And if you’re in a season where you’re thinking a little more deeply about who you are and how you see yourself, you might enjoy exploring some of the Reflections in the Mirror stories here on Blooming Harbor. Sometimes seeing something from a different perspective is all it takes to start looking at yourself a little differently.

Because you are allowed to have a day when you’re not at your best.

You are allowed to feel what you feel.

You are allowed to still be figuring things out.

And you are still you.

Maybe today isn’t about changing anything.

Maybe it’s simply about giving yourself permission to stop picking yourself apart and recognize that you are doing the best you can with where you are right now.

Take a breath.

Let yourself be here.

You don’t have to be anyone else.

You are exactly who you need to be in this moment.

And for today, let that be enough.

A Thought to Carry With You

Maybe the next time you catch yourself thinking, “I should be different,” stop for a moment.

Instead, ask yourself:

“What if I don’t need to be different right now?”

You don’t have to come up with an answer.

Just sit with the question for a little while.

And if it makes you think of something you’d like to share, I’d love to hear it in the comments. Sometimes the thoughts we almost keep to ourselves are the ones someone else needs to hear.
