The Day I Remembered to Laugh

Sometimes I think we take life a little too seriously.
We worry about what we should have done, what needs to be fixed, what we could have done differently, and whether we’re doing enough.
We can spend so much time trying to get everything right that we forget something important.
We’re allowed to enjoy our lives, too.
We’re allowed to laugh.
Not the polite little laugh when someone tells a joke that isn’t really funny. I’m talking about the kind of laugh that catches you completely off guard.
The kind where something ridiculous happens and you just have to shake your head and think,
Well…that certainly didn’t go as planned.
And then you laugh.
Sometimes We Just Need to Lighten Up
Life has a funny way of reminding us that we’re not always in control.
You can have your whole day planned out and then spill your coffee, forget why you walked into the kitchen, or spend ten minutes looking for something that’s been right in front of you.
We can get frustrated.
Or we can laugh.
I’m learning that being able to laugh at ourselves is actually a pretty wonderful thing.
It doesn’t mean we don’t care. It simply means we’re human.
And humans are wonderfully imperfect.
Laughter Doesn’t Make the Hard Things Disappear
I’m not saying laughter fixes everything.
It doesn’t.
There are things in life that hurt. There are disappointments, losses, and difficult days when laughing is the last thing we feel like doing.
But even during those seasons, there can still be little moments of light.
A funny memory.
A silly conversation.
Something a friend says.
A story you’ve heard a hundred times that still makes you laugh.
Those moments may not change what’s happening around us.
But they can change the moment we’re in.
And sometimes, that’s enough.
We’re Allowed to Have Some Fun
As we get older, we become very good at being responsible.
We take care of things. We take care of other people. We go to work, pay the bills, remember appointments, and keep track of a thousand little things.
And somewhere in all of that responsibility, it’s easy to forget that we’re allowed to have fun.
We’re allowed to be silly.
We’re allowed to laugh until our stomach hurts.
We’re allowed to enjoy something simply because it makes us happy.
It doesn’t have to be productive.
Some things are simply meant to make our hearts feel lighter.
🌿 A Little Something for Your Quiet Time
Sometimes doing something simple and enjoyable can give us a chance to slow down.
If writing helps you clear your mind or remember the little things that make you smile, a journal can be a lovely place to start.

And if creativity helps you relax, spending a little time coloring can be just as simple.

These aren’t things you need to accomplish.
They’re simply little ways to give yourself permission to pause.
So Today, Let’s Laugh
Today, I’m going to try to notice the little things.
The unexpected things.
The ridiculous things.
The moments that don’t go according to plan.
Instead of automatically getting frustrated, maybe I’ll stop for a second and laugh.
Because someday, those little moments may become the stories we tell—the things we remember and smile about years later.
Maybe growing older isn’t about becoming more serious.
Maybe it’s also about learning when not to be so serious.
So if today doesn’t go exactly the way you planned, give yourself a little grace.
Take a breath.
Find something that makes you smile.
Call someone who makes you laugh.
Do something simply because you enjoy it.
And remember:
You don’t have to have everything figured out to enjoy the life you’re living.
Sometimes you just need to laugh.
And maybe that’s a kind of healing, too.
A Little Blooming Harbor Thought

What if today, instead of asking, “What do I need to fix?”
We asked, “What can I do that makes my heart a little lighter?
Maybe the answer doesn’t have to be complicated.
Maybe it’s a journal.
Maybe it’s coloring.
Maybe it’s a cup of coffee.
Maybe it’s a good laugh.
Life doesn’t have to be perfect to be beautiful.
And it certainly doesn’t have to be serious all the time.
