One of the things I love most about my Ninja CREAMi is how often I use it. Whether I’m making a high-protein ice cream, frozen yogurt, or one of my other favorite frozen treats, it has become one of those kitchen appliances I reach for again and again.

But using it often means cleaning it often, too.

I’ve learned that taking a few extra minutes after each use makes cleanup much easier—and there are a couple of parts I pay particular attention to now that I didn’t think much about when I first started using my CREAMi.

I use the Ninja CREAMi Deluxe NC501 (paid link), and this is the cleaning routine that works for me.

Here’s how I clean my Ninja CREAMi NC501 after each use.

How I Clean My Ninja CREAMi NC501

After I finish making a pint, I take apart the removable pieces and clean them while any leftover food is still fresh.

I wash the Deluxe Creamerizer Paddle, pint, outer bowl, and lids with warm, soapy water. The removable parts are also dishwasher safe according to Ninja’s instructions, as long as the appropriate pieces are separated before going into the dishwasher.

I rinse everything well and let the pieces dry completely before putting them away.

But there are two areas I pay particular attention to now:

the outer lid and the spindle.

Don't Forget the Outer Lid

The outer lid is probably the part I pay the most attention to now.

There has been quite a bit of conversation on social media recently about what can happen when the inside of a CREAMi lid isn’t cleaned thoroughly. I don’t want to repeat or present individual viral stories as verified facts, but the conversation was enough to make me take a closer look at my own lid.

And honestly, it made me realize how easy it would be to give the lid a quick rinse and assume it was clean.

Now I don’t skip it.

The outer lid has small openings and a rubber seal that can be easy to overlook. Those areas deserve the same attention as the parts you can see easily.

How I Clean the Outer Lid

After removing the Creamerizer Paddle, I rinse the outer lid with warm water to remove any leftover food or residue.

Ninja’s cleaning instructions recommend running warm water through the paddle-release lever so that water flows through the lid and out through the drain holes.

I let the water run through those areas and allow the lid to drain completely.

I don’t try to rush this part. If I’m cleaning the lid, I want to actually clean the places where residue could collect.

Don't Forget the Rubber Seal

The dark-gray rubber lip seal on the underside of the outer lid is another part that’s easy to overlook.

I remove the seal and wash both the seal and the area underneath it with warm, soapy water.

I also take a moment to look closely at the track where the seal sits.

It takes very little extra time, and I feel much better knowing I’ve cleaned the entire area rather than just wiping around it.

A small cleaning brush can also be helpful if you need to reach a narrow area or remove stubborn residue.

Let the Lid Dry Completely

After washing the lid and rubber seal, I let everything dry completely before putting it back together.

I prefer to leave the rubber seal separated from the lid while everything dries. I also make sure the lid is positioned so any remaining water can drain rather than sit inside.

For me, the goal isn’t just a clean CREAMi.

It’s a clean and completely dry CREAMi that’s ready for the next use.

How I Clean the Spindle

The spindle is the rod that comes down from underneath the control panel and connects with the Creamerizer Paddle.

This is another area I started paying more attention to after using my CREAMi regularly. If I let residue build up around the spindle, it can become sticky and much harder to clean later.

So now, I clean it after I use my machine.

I keep an extra CREAMi Deluxe Pint on hand specifically so I always have a clean container available for this quick cleanup. I put about 1–2 inches of warm water into the empty pint, place it into the machine, and run a short Mix-In cycle.

When the cycle is finished, I remove the container and wipe the spindle with a soft, damp microfiber cloth.

Having an extra pint makes this really easy for me. I don’t have to wait for the container I just used to be cleaned and dried before I can do this quick cleanup.

This has become part of my normal CREAMi routine because I’d rather clean away any residue while it’s fresh than let it dry and become sticky or crusty.

This is a cleaning method I personally use with my NC501. It is not a substitute for following Ninja’s cleaning and care instructions.

Once your Ninja CREAMi is clean and ready for another batch, you might want to try my Coconut Cream Yogurt Ninja CREAMi Ice Cream or my Vanilla Blueberry Greek Yogurt Ninja Creami Ice Cream.

What About the Other Removable Parts?

The rest of the cleanup is pretty straightforward.

I wash the:

  • Deluxe Creamerizer Paddle
  • CREAMi Deluxe Pint
  • Outer Bowl
  • Outer Bowl Lid

with warm, soapy water.

The removable pieces can also be placed on the top rack of the dishwasher according to Ninja’s instructions.

If I wash everything by hand, I rinse the pieces thoroughly and let them air-dry.

Either way, I make sure everything is completely dry before putting the machine back together.

Cleaning the Outside of the Machine

The motor base doesn’t need much attention.

I use a soft, damp cloth to wipe down the outside of the machine and the control panel.

If anything gets underneath the motor base platform, I clean that area with a damp cloth as well.

And this is important:

Never immerse the motor base in water or pour water directly into the machine.

The removable pieces can be washed.

The motor base cannot.

I Don't Wait Until Everything Is Dried On

One thing I’ve learned from using my CREAMi regularly is that cleanup is much easier when I do it right away.

If I’ve made something with peanut butter, chocolate, protein powder, or another sticky ingredient, I don’t want to leave it sitting on the parts until it dries.

A quick wash while everything is still fresh is much easier than trying to remove dried-on residue later.

It’s one of those little kitchen habits that saves me time.

What If a Part Needs to Be Replaced?

This is something I think every CREAMi owner should know.

You don’t necessarily have to replace the entire machine if one of the removable parts becomes damaged or needs replacing.

Replacement parts are available for the NC501, including the Deluxe Outer Lid, Creamerizer Paddle, Deluxe Pint, and other components.

That means if your lid becomes damaged or a removable part eventually wears out, you have the option of replacing that individual piece instead of replacing the entire appliance.

I like knowing that because kitchen appliances get used. Parts can eventually wear out, and being able to replace an individual component can help extend the life of something you use regularly.

A Few Cleaning Tools I Keep Handy

I don’t think you need a drawer full of specialty CREAMi cleaning gadgets.

A few simple things are enough for my routine.

Small Cleaning Brush #ad
I find a small brush helpful when I need to get into narrow areas around removable pieces.

Soft Microfiber Cloth #ad

This is what I use for the spindle and the outside of the motor base.

For the lid, I let it air-dry completely. I place it on its side with the openings facing downward so any remaining water can drain out while air can circulate through the lid.

The important thing isn’t having a collection of cleaning products.

It’s remembering the parts that are easiest to overlook.

My Biggest CREAMi Cleaning Reminder

If I could give another CREAMi owner just one cleaning reminder, it would be this:

Don’t forget the lid, and let it air-dry completely while standing on its side.

Pay attention to the paddle-release area, the drain openings, the underside of the lid, and especially the rubber seal.

And don’t forget the spindle, either.

Those areas can be easy to overlook when you’re simply trying to get the dishes done and move on with your day.

Give them a little attention while you’re cleaning everything else, and you won’t have to deal with dried-on residue later.

A Clean CREAMi Is Ready for the Next Pint

The Ninja CREAMi has become one of my favorite kitchen appliances, and taking care of it doesn’t have to be complicated.

My routine is simple:

Wash it.

Rinse it.

Pay attention to the lid, seal, and spindle.

Let everything dry completely.

Put it away.

Then it’s ready for whatever I’m making next.

And in my kitchen, there’s usually another pint coming soon.
